I EMULATED A MOROCCAN JALI SCREEN FOR THE TWO DOORS. THERE ARE FOUR THIN LAYERS OF IPE ABOUT 1/16" THICK, BACKED BY AN MDF CORE. EACH LAYER OF THE IPE, AND ITS GRAIN IS DIRECTED A DIFFERENT WAY MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR THE INTRICATE DETAIL NEEDED WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE STRENGTH AND INTEGRITY.
The Monroe was a credenza I originally designed and built for a clients home in Joshua Tree. It was a Moroccan style house that was built back in the early sixties, and he really wanted me to emulate some of the details of the house into this piece.
